The Stars Group has announced the date of its Indian market entry, with its Pokerstars.IN offering set to be made available to customers, across a majority of states within the nation, on April 17.

Sachiko Gaming Pvt Ltd, a company that focuses on games of skill and forms part of the Sugal & Damani Group portfolio, is to operate Pokerstars.IN, with The Stars Group licensing its brand and providing certain support services.

Set to be available on desktop and mobile, it will offer online poker to consumers in Indian Rupees a number of skill game formats, such as No-Limit Hold’em and Omaha.

The new site is also set to offer localised versions of branded series and events, including the Sunday Millions and World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP).

Kamlesh Vijay, Chief Executive Officer of Sugal & Damani Group, said: “The popularity of poker in India is growing and we are excited to build the market with the support of the global leader in online poker.”

It its statement, The Stars Group detail that Pokerstars.IN is set to offer “offer industry-leading responsible gaming, player protection and fraud detection mechanisms to help ensure the integrity of games and the safety of players. In line with local regulations, players residing in Indian states which do not permit participation in real money skill games will be prevented from playing”.
