The government of the South Korean city of Incheon has outlined plans to establish the region as a hub for the culture and tourism industries in Northeast Asia via the Yeongjong-do Integrated Resort Cluster Project.

This comes as Yeongjong island, located off the west coast of the city and where the Incheon International Airport is located, continues to expand cultural and tourism facilities, such as 5-star hotels, foreigners-only casinos, convention installations, spas and theme parks.

Already boasting the Paradise City complex, the region is to be joined by the Caesars Resort Complex and Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment’s Inspire Entertainment Resort in the next few years.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority expects the resort complex businesses to generate over 20,000 new jobs and a financial impact of approximately KRW 2trn (US $1.6bn) annually.

Furthermore, it was also stressed that the resort complex industry will contribute to invigorating the regional economy and development of the MICE industry.

Having first opened its doors in April 2017 Paradise City, the first resort complex in Korea, contains a 5-star hotel with 711 rooms, the largest foreigners-only casino in Korea and a convention hall that can accommodate 1,600.

Expanding its premises to add a boutique hotel with 58 suite rooms, the largest recreation club in northeast Asia and an art exhibition space in 2018, an indoor theme park made its introduction earlier this year.

Caesars Entertainment Corporation’s Yeongjong complex is slated to begin operations in 2021, and will consist of a luxury hotel with over 700 rooms, casino for foreigners only, convention facilities, live entertainment performing hall, spa and a swimming pool.

Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment‘s vision for the Inspire complex

Adjacent to the Incheon International Airport, Mohegan’s under construction Inspire Entertainment Resort is predicted to “significantly contribute” when it opens in 2022.

The resort complex will include a luxury hotel with over 1,250 rooms, foreigners-only casino and indoor and outdoor theme parks, as well as an arena that can accommodate audiences up to 15,000.
