In our CasinoBeats Rhymes and Life feature we are revealing the soundtracks that provide a backdrop for the gaming industry.
In this edition, we spoke to Fraser Linkleter, the CEO of Slots Temple, who shared the epic performance he saw at Glastonbury.
What was your first-ever gig, and what was it like?
My first-ever concert experience was a band called The Wonder Stuff who played in my hometown of Reading. There were loads of smelly teenagers (myself included) in what was basically a glorified Sports Hall. It was still an exciting night though and was the beginning of my journey of live gigs.
What’s the best performance you have ever seen live, and why was it so good?
The most unforgettable live performance I’ve ever witnessed is probably Jamie XX’s set at Glastonbury. It was one of those rare moments when everything was aligned perfectly – the sun was going down behind the Park Stage and we were right at the front… It was the perfect setting and a brilliant performance. Glastonbury is a fantastic festival, and one I’d certainly recommend visiting.
Is there an artist who, in your eyes, can do no wrong? If so, why?
Damon Albarn. I loved Blur’s Britpop anthems growing up – they defined a generation of music fans. But then I also really admire all the different stuff he’s done since – Gorillaz managed to fuse a whole host of different genres in unprecedented ways. He’san amazing artist.
What is your most cherished album, and what makes it so special to you?
The Stone Roses’ self-titled debut album certainly holds a treasured spot in my collection, it is a timeless classic in my opinion. I never get tired of it, and it plays so well from start to finish. It’s one of those albums that is great to blast out on the speakers!
What song always makes it to your gym playlist? What activities do you usually do in the gym while listening to it?
When it comes to fueling my gym sessions, there’s one track that never fails to make the cut – Frankie Knuckles’ iconic “Your Love”. It sets the right tempo. Going to the gym is sporadic for me, but when I go, I like to do circuit training classes.
Which artist or song helps take your mind off work? Why have you chosen this artist and genre?
I really like Kate Bush. Some of her music is so out there – it’s a delightful departure from reality and it’s great for taking your mind off work.
If you could go on a night out with any musician, who would it be, and where would you take them?
I’d probably embark on a night out with Mick Jagger on one of his visits to the legendary Studio 54 during its 70s heyday. That would be the adventure of a lifetime … if you can remember all of it the next morning.
