In the third quarter of 2017, online gaming and betting accounted for 3.5 per cent of all online business in Spain, reports the Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia, the country’s competition and markets authority.
Across all online sectors, e-commerce in Spain leapt 26 per cent year on year in the third quarter, to a total of €7.785bn.
The leading sectors in terms of business volume were travel and tourism, with 15.6 per cent of total turnover; air transport, with 9.9 per cent, and clothing with 5.1 per cent of the total.
Online gaming and betting ranked seventh with a 3.5 per cent market share.
In terms of the numbers of transactions, igaming ranked higher still, placing third with a 5.8 per cent share. Transportation topped that table with 6.8 per cent of the total.
