Following his keynote address at the CasinoBeats Summit in September 2019, Jesper Kärrbrink, Chairman and Creative Director at Green Jade Games, talked about how the casino industry is evolving through iterative processes – and what more it can do to be truly innovative.

At the London Summit, the former CEO of Mr Green challenged the established approach to innovation with his presentation, Innovation v Iteration: The Search for New Ideas.

Speaking to CasinoBeats afterwards, he stressed the industry’s current reliance on iteration. “Iteration is where you improve and improve and improve – and this industry is a master of it,” said Kärrbrink.

“We have fantastic games – maths models are becoming more complex, the winning opportunities are more complex – we are catering for our players.

“But we are not truly innovative in terms of groundbreaking or disruptive developments. It has been a long time since we saw something like this in the slots industry,” he said.

“Its a matter of daring to take the step – it’s expensive and difficult.”

He continued: “I think we should invest more in R&D as an industry. Compared to others, we invest very, very little”.

Kärrbrink went on to outline the need for transparency in terms of the player experience on offer, through a new kind of game, which adds an element of skill. He believes that by offering a longer gaming experience at lower cost will help address the perception that the industry is quick to take players’ money.

At September’s Summit, Kärrbrink also collected an inaugural CasinoBeats Pride of Gaming award, in recognition of his continuing commitment to responsible gambling.
