Rootz has pulled back the curtain on what is billed as a “significant transition” in executive leadership, which will see Co-Founder Lasse Rantala depart the role of Chief Executive Officer to become Chair of the board.

Alongside this, Sam Brown, who boasts a wealth of industry experience, will step into the vacated CEO position, a little over one year after joining the igaming firm as Chief Commercial Officer.

Following the changeover of Rantala, Rootz has predicted that his industry knowledge and expertise will be critical in enabling the group “to consolidate its position as a significant player on the global igaming stage”.

Despite a change at the helm, Rootz is quite to acknowledge an ongoing commitment to “innovation, customer satisfaction and the pursuit of new market opportunities”.

“As I pass on the mantle of CEO to Sam, I am filled with immense pride and confidence,” stated Rantala.

“Sam’s commitment to excellence, strategic mindset, and passion for innovation make him the perfect fit to lead Rootz into its next chapter.

“I have full faith in his ability to steer our company to even greater heights and the board is fully dedicated to offering him unwavering support every step of the way.”

Brown has occupied a number of positions across a career in the industry that began in September 2004 as a Worldwide Graduate at Ladbrokes.

Following stints at Betfair, The Player’s Lottery, Betsson, NetEnt and Rolla Services, Brown became CCO at Hero Gaming in April 2019. He held this position for three and a quarter years, before making the switch to Rootz in June 2022.

“After an exciting first year at Rootz my passion for the business has only grown stronger,”  Brown noted.

“We have a great vision for the future, and have the people, technology, and ambition to deliver it. It’s an honour to be entrusted with the next phase of the Rootz journey.”

This becomes the second executive change detailed by Rootz in as many months, following the appointment of Martin Kunath as Chief Marketing Officer.
