Top Contenders to Win NFL OROY
Jeremiyah Love (+456)
Our advice is to fade the favorite here. Love could miss the start of the regular season after Arizona overused him in the preseason opener against the Raiders. The ankle injury came on the last of his 24 snaps on offense. He had 14 touches…in the first half!
Fernando Mendoza (+567)
Another fade here. Las Vegas coach Klint Kubiak seems intent on starting veteran Kirk Cousins over Mendoza, presumably to allow the rookie time to learn the ropes.
Mendoza will likely start sometime in October, but would miss a substantial part of the season. The Raiders are awful, too, so it’s hard to envision him amassing huge stats.
Jadarian Price (+669)
Seattle’s rookie RB has been sidelined with lower-body soreness. Jadarian Price has returned to practice after missing Saturday’s preseason opener against the Cowboys.
Price is an intriguing target in this market, given Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III is now playing for the Chiefs, and RBI Zach Charbonnet is on the physically unable to perform list after tearing an ACL in last year’s playoffs.
Price played second fiddle to Love in Notre Dame’s backfield last season, but he’s a capable runner and scorer should he assume the lead back role for Seattle. He had 11 TDs last year. Seattle’s offense should be a juggernaut again this season, and Price could be a big beneficiary.
Carnell Tate (+733)
Carnell Tate was taken fourth overall in the draft by the Titans, who struggled under rookie QB Cam Ward last season.
Wan’Dale Robinson and Calvin Ridley are also in Tennessee’s wide receiving room, but Tate should emerge as WR1 based on prodigious production at Ohio State. His chances of becoming OROY depend entirely on Ward’s development in his second season as an NFL quarterback.
De’Zhaun Stribling (+1150)
De’Zhaun Stribling flashed in his the preseason opener against the Titans, making seven catches for a game-high 63 yards on eight targets. The 49ers added stud WR Mike Evans in the offseason, but Stribling could make an immediate impact due to key injuries to the receiving corps.
Fellow WR Ricky Pearsall is out for the year due to a PCL injury, and star TE George Kittle could start the season on the PUP list after suffering a torn Achilles in last year’s playoffs. Already at No. 2 on the depth chart, Stribling is definitely an OROY candidate to watch heading into the season.
