Online operator Dafabet is to close its UK-facing casino.

No deposits have been accepted since March 8 and existing players must withdraw their funds by March 20 or have them automatically credited to them on that day.

The operator gave notice of the move in a statement on the Dafabet Casino website: “As of 00:00hrs Tuesday 20th March, 2018, Dafabet Casino UK will cease to operate.

“Deposits will no longer be accepted from 00:00 Thursday 8th March 2018.

“Withdrawals will be available online until 00:00 Tuesday 20th March 2018. after which all player balances will be returned to registered depositing method.”

Dafabet, part of the Philippines-based AsianBGE group, holds licences from both the UK Gambling Commission and from the Isle of Man and will continue to offer its sportsbook to UK punters.

Dafabet is also a high-profile football sponsor in the UK, as the main shirt sponsor for Celtic, Burnley, Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers, and as the major betting partner of Leicester City.

No reasons have been given by Dafabet for the shuttering of its UK casino operations but the move comes in an increasingly challenging climate, with the UK Gambling Commission and other regulatory agencies recently baring their teeth.

However, it is worth noting that there is no suggestion that Dafabet has in any way acted improperly.
