Gauselmann Group subsidiary Casino Merkur International has opened a new location in Spain and also renovated and expanded a location in the Czech Republic.

“With this step, we are pushing ahead with internationalisation and further expanding our growth markets abroad,” said Stefan Bruns, managing director of Casino Merkur International.

The new venue in Madrid is the company’s first on the Spanish mainland, complementing five existing Merkur Salon de Juego venues on the Spanish island of Majorca.

Casino Merkur International also operates 23 arcades in the Czech Republic,
including eight venues under the Merkur Casino brand in Prague – one
of which has been renovated and expanded from 500sq.m to 1,800sq.m.

Around 500 guests attended the opening ceremony for the new Prague location, with partygoers enjoying, among other things, a performance by Mambo No.5 singer Lou Bega (pictured).

“We will continue to raise awareness of the Merkur sun as a symbol of first- class gaming enjoyment abroad,” said Bruns. “Spain and the Czech Republic are strategic target markets for the company, which will be further expanded.”
