Online gambling group Betsson has recruited Peter Frey to take up the merged role of chief product officer and chief technology officer at the Swedish company.

Frey joins Betsson, home to brands including Betsafe, NordicBet and CasinoEuro, joins from Bonnier News, Sweden’s biggest media company by market share, where he is CTO.

Betsson said it will be merging the CPO and CTO roles into one with the aim of “closing the gap between technology and business,” and thus boost efficiency.

Jesper Svensson, CEO of Betsson Operations said: “Throughout his career, Peter has shown that he can deliver highly user-centric products and is therefore a perfect match for Betsson. With fewer layers in the organisation we know we can be more efficient, as we did with the successful merger of Marketing and Commercial a while back.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about efficient delivery of business driven initiatives. Holding the combined CPO/CTO role, Peter will be able to balance capacity changes and ensure swift delivery of improvements to our customer experience.”

Frey has a strong background in the Swedish media and took a leading role in the transition of Aftonbladet from evening newspaper to become the most visited website in Sweden. Then, at Bonnier, he took on the challenge of repeating the same success for the Bonnier-owned Expressen – Aftonbladet’s main competitor.

Frey will work closely with chief commercial officer Ronni Hartvig on business prioritisation, Betsson said.
