IGT has published its 2022 Sustainability Report ‘Ahead of the Game’, underlining the supplier’s commitment to global sustainability and its environmental, social and governance efforts.
The company highlighted four key areas of sustainability within its report: valuing and protecting our people, advancing responsibility, supporting our communities and fostering sustainable operations.
Commenting on the report, Vince Sadusky, CEO of IGT, said: “This marks the 16th consecutive year that IGT has released its Sustainability Report, demonstrating the company’s comprehensive sustainability initiatives and the positive impacts they have on our people and the planet.
“With a strong foundation centred around Sustainable Play and priorities aligned with UN Global Compact principles and Sustainable Development Goals, IGT continues to make considerable progress as an industry leader in global sustainability as we build a more sustainable business for the future.”
For valuing and protecting our people, IGT emphasised the efforts of its employees in nearly 60 countries, promoting a multicultural safe working environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In 2022, the company included a Human Rights Policy Statement in employee training, which was added to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index, and became the first casino and gaming company to become a signatory for the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, which offer guidance on how to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, marketplace and community.
Regarding advancing responsibility, IGT noted that responsibility is a “critical part of its business”.
The company highlighted that in 2022, it became the first US industry supplier to achieve Global Gambling Guidance Group’s responsible gaming accreditation for sports betting, meaning it is responsible gaming certified across all product segments.
IGT added it has promoted “positive, healthy play behaviours across all business segments” through its Positive Play approach pathway.
Wendy Montgomery, SVP of Marketing, Communications, & Sustainability at IGT, stated: “IGT’s commitment to RG starts with its employees and continues to be a vital aspect of the company’s business. IGT has taken steps to prevent underage gambling while encouraging positive play behaviours and supporting organisations that address problem gambling.
“IGT’s efforts are brought to life by a comprehensive RG framework and executive governance that are outlined in the company’s RG Policy.”
For supporting our communities, the company highlighted how it helps communities thrive through corporate and employee-driven programmes that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
In 2022, this included the publication of the company’s first formal Community Giving and Engagement Policy, as well as the philanthropic initiative After School Advantage to offer STEM education to the youth.
Regarding fostering sustainable operations, IGT emphasised its commitment to internationally recognised ESG standards, including strategies to mitigate and prevent the company’s impact on the environment.
Systems and strategies promoted by the company included the Science Based Targets initiative to reduce carbon emissions and the implementation of decarbonisation workstreams to investigate opportunities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions that align with science-based targets.
