John McEntee, a White House employee and a personal assistant to President Donald Trump, lost his job this week after an investigation deemed his gambling habit constituted a security risk, reports the Washington Post.

There is no indication the 27-year-old McEntee acted illegally or improperly but sources close to the investigation told the Post the aide would bet “tens of thousands of dollars at a time,” which made him vulnerable and unsuitable for such a sensitive position.

McEntee was reportedly relieved of his duties and escorted from the White House grounds on Monday.

Earlier this week, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders refused to comment on McEntee’s departure, saying the White House “doesn’t comment on personnel issues”.

Despite his firing on Monday, McEntee was the next day enrolled on Trump’s re-election committee as a senior adviser for operations.
