Macau-based casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group is set to receive its licence for an integrated casino resort on the Philippines island of Boracay, regulator PAGCOR confirmed this week.

Andrea Domingo, the chair of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation, said the $500m scheme would go ahead despite concerns regarding the need to close parts of the popular tourist island during the preparation works.

Domingo said PAGCOR will issue a provisional licence for Galaxy and partner Leisure and Resorts World Corp on Wednesday.

Leisure and Resorts World has recently purchased a 23-hectare development site on the island.
