MGM Resorts donates $30k to Nevada women’s shelter

The MGM Resorts Foundation, the operator’s fundraising program, has donated the proceeds from its 2018 Annual Women’s Leadership Conference to Nevada’s The Shade Tree shelter.

The Shade Tree is designed specifically to meet the needs of women and children in crisis in southern Nevada and is accessible 24 hours a day. The shelter offers 364 permanent beds. On average, 33 per cent of their clients are under the age of 18.

The donated funds amount to $30,000 and represent the proceeds after costs from the 2018 Women’s Leadership Conference

Phyllis A James, chief diversity and corporate responsibility officer for MGM Resorts International, said: “Women’s equality is not just a women’s issue ‒ it is a business issue, a societal issue and a global issue.

“I am very proud that MGM Resorts is a progressive company that truly supports women and has led the gaming and hospitality industry in appointing women to breakthrough roles such as resort presidents, executive chefs and company pilots,” she said.

“Our Women’s Leadership Conference is a concrete expression of our Foundation’s and MGM’s commitment to development of women leaders in all walks of life in our community.”

The 2019 Women’s Leadership Conference takes place at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas on August 5/6
