Flutter Entertainment has called upon the payments expertise of Mark Shaw after hiring the former Spotify executive as its Director of Global Payments Strategy.

The new Director brings a wealth of expertise from the payments, finance and technology sectors to the role, having previously held positions at Visa, Barclays and TSB, as well as music streaming giant Spotify, his most recent employer.

Shaw has already been active in his new role at Flutter, revealing on a LinkedIn announcement that he has been leading its payments operations for the last month.

Shaw’s statement read: “After leaving Spotify earlier in the year, I’m pleased to say I’ve started up (and am now one month into) a new role as Director of Global Payments Strategy for Flutter Entertainment Plc, the world’s largest online sports betting and igaming operator

“As a Group, Flutter operates some of the world’s most innovative, diverse and distinctive sports betting and gaming brands as part of a globally federated business model – from FanDuel and Paddy Power to Sportsbet, Betfair, PokerStars, Sisal and more, the scale, growth and diversity of the business is incredible.”

Shaw entered the payments and finance sphere back in 2003 when he joined Barclays, before leaving the UK high-street bank in 2006 to become Visa’s Senior Manager of Group Strategy in 2007.

He stayed with Visa until 2011, becoming their Vice President of Mobile Payments Strategy until leaving the company to join Vocalink as a Strategy Lead.

While Shaw returned to banking at TSB in 2018 as Head of Strategy and Design – Payments, he left the industry once again to become Director of Payments Strategy at Spotify in October 2019.

Shaw’s announcement continued: “I’m delighted to be working with the awesome local payment teams to build out the future for payments across the group and look forward to enhancing the growth and efficiency of the business

“It’s a big change from Spotify in so many ways, but new challenges and learning are the only constants in life, so it’s time to get stuck in and help ‘Change The Game’.”
