The Akron Zips and Bowling Green Falcons tangle as part of a “MACtion” tripleheader tonight. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
Akron (4-7 SU, 5-6 ATS) is coming off a 42-35 OT loss to Kent State. Quarterback Ben Finley went off with 424 passing yards and three touchdowns. WR Marcel Williams had a huge night with 206 receiving yards.
Bowling Green (3-7 SU, 4-6 ATS) will try to snap a four-game losing streak tonight. As of this writing, the Falcons are listed as a 3-point home favorite with a total of 46.5 at DraftKings.
Based on those odds, this is expected to be the most competitive MAC game of the evening. DraftKings has seen solid two-way action with 51% of spread tickets on Akron.
Best Bet Akron vs. Bowling Green: Against the Spread
Akron +3 (-105 at DraftKings)
The quarterback carousel at Bowling Green has seen four different players take snaps during the current four-game losing skid.
The Falcons failed to surpass 21 points in any of those games. The offensive woes led to the firing of offensive coordinator Travis Partridge earlier this month.
Hunter Najm threw for 129 yards and a TD in last week’s 27-21 loss to Eastern Michigan. He was also picked off once.
As bad as the offense has been, Bowling Green’s defense struggles against the pass. The Falcons allow 13.4 yards per completion, which ranks them No. 125 nationally. That could spell doom against Finley and the Zips, who are coming off their most explosive outing of the season.
Defensively, Akron is a top-40 team in takeaways with 18 on nine interceptions and nine fumbles recovered. Given Bowling Green’s uncertainty at the quarterback position, that bodes well for the visitors, too.
In addition to this spread bet, we’ll also sprinkle some money on Akron +136 to win the game outright.
Best Player Prop for Akron Zips
Ben Finley OVER 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (-130 at FanDuel)
Finley is coming off his first 400-yard passing game. He’s routinely cashed this bet over the last month:
- 424 passing yards, 3 TDs vs. Kent State
- 197 passing yards, 2 TDs vs. UMass
- 230 passing yards, 2 TDs vs. Buffalo
- 291 passing yards, 3 TDs vs. Ball State
Bowling Green has surrendered 12 passing TDs on the year. As long as Akron’s O-line can provide decent protection — Finley was sacked six times last week — he should be able to continue his streak of throwing multiple TDs to five games.
