The PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open serves as a prelude to next week’s Masters at Augusta National. Typically, a tune-up for golf’s biggest major, the Valero Open has produced five different winners over the past five years.

Canadian Corey Connors won the event in both 2019 and 2023. Lefty Brian Harman is the defending champion of the Valero Open.

Best Bet on Favorite to Win Valero Texas Open

Jordan Spieth +1850

Jordan Spieth has produced three top-12 finishes over his last four starts. The Texas native won the 2021 Valero Open.

Spieth hasn’t won a tournament since the 2022 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in South Carolina. His form is trending in the right direction, though, and Spieth will be on our betting card for The Masters, too.

He won the 2015 Masters by four strokes over Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose. He’s finished inside the top four six times at Augusta, including runner-up in 2014 and 2016.

Best Bet on Sleeper to Win Valero Texas Open

Ryo Hisatsune +3900

Hisatsune is knocking on the door of his first PGA Tour win. Look at his production early in the 2026 season:

  • Farmers Insurance Open (T-2)
  • WM Phoenix Open (T-10)
  • AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (T-8)
  • Players Championship (T-13)

Hisatsune also finished T-5 in last year’s Valero Texas Open. Hisatsune’s season metrics also reflect his superior form, with his tour ranks noted parenthetically:

  • Greens in Regulation (3rd)
  • SG: Tee-to-Green (8th)
  • SG: Off-the-Tee (15th)
  • SG: Total (19th)

All of that bodes well for his chances at TPC San Antonio this week.

Best Bet on Longshot to Win Valero Texas Open

Austin Smotherman +9000

Austin Smotherman has posted a trio of top-13 finishes this season.

  • American Express T-8
  • Cognizant Classic T-2
  • Players Championship T-13

He’s also been wildly inconsistent, alternating strong finishes with missed cuts and withdrawing at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. One of those missed cuts came in his last start at the Valspar Championship.

If his up-and-down performance trend holds, Smotherman is in line for a nice finish this week. At these odds, he’s worth a small toss to win.
