Tim Alper is a journalist who covers betting news and regulation for CasinoBeats. He joined the CasinoBeats team in May 2025. He reports on breaking news and developments in the world of betting, casinos, and regulatory developments, covering issues such as new EU-region credit card gambling rules. He also covers the latest developments in Asia, such as Japan and Indonesia’s ongoing crackdowns on illegal online betting platforms.

Tim graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Film Studies and went on to complete a postgraduate diploma at the London School of Journalism.

Tim started out in the media as a reporter for local newspapers in his native UK, before moving to South Korea to work as an assistant editor at the Korea IT Times, eventually going on to become the magazine’s managing editor. He then went on to join the South Korean media network TBS, working as a producer. Here, he was responsible for producing a variety of radio shows, including primetime current affairs and sports programs. He also worked as a technology correspondent at the Korea Times.

He later went on to work as a columnist for major South Korean daily newspapers, including Chosun Ilbo, Maeil Kyungjae, Kyunghyang Shinmun, Joongang Ilbo, and the Korea Herald. His freelance tech-related articles have also been published by British media outlets, including the BBC and The Guardian.

During his time in South Korea, Tim also worked as the senior editor of Korean Air’s in-flight magazine Morning Calm. He later went on to become the editor-in-chief at Edelman Korea before working with leading IT clients, including Samsung, Microsoft, LG, and Sony.

After returning to the UK, Tim continued to work as a columnist for several South Korean dailies and joined the writing staff at Cryptonews.com when it launched in 2018.

In addition to his news writing experience, Tim is also the sole author of two non-fiction books, as well as the co-author of three other titles. He remains the only non-Korean to have worked as a producer at a major South Korean broadcasting network.

He is also fluent in French, Spanish, Korean, and Russian.
