Gateway Cascades Casino Delta

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation has given Gateway Casinos and Entertainment the green light, regarding the company’s proposed $70m Cascades Casino Delta entertainment destination.

Designed to house 500 slots and 24 table games, the new casino is expected to open in 2020, and following the issuing of regulatory approvals, the BCLC detail that they have provided The City of Delta with the final go-ahead on the facility.

This follows an extensive review of the opportunity, considering issues such as health impacts, with design of the new property also reflecting several points of feedback from the public.

Final approval also arose after a objection was filed by the City of Richmond, citing crime, traffic and transportation concerns, triggering the appointment on a independent, third-party mediator to address issues raised.

Tony Santo, Gateway’s CEO, commented: “We look forward to bringing this state of-the-art entertainment destination to such a rapidly growing and dynamic community.  Through our investment of $70 million in Delta we will bring up to 700 new jobs and careers to the area, and significant economic spin-offs during the construction and beyond.”

Designed around the “inspiration of play,” the latest enhancement of the Cascades brand follows successful launches in British Columbia’s Langley, Kamloops and Penticton, whilst construction on Ontario’s first Cascades Casino recently began in Chatham-Kent.

Concerning its new property, it is detailed that it will be “a full-service local entertainment destination with a casual ambience, but with the scale and amenities associated with a big-city entertainment facility, with exceptional customer service and attention to detail.”

“Throughout this process we have worked closely with our partners at BCLC and The City of Delta.  I would like to thank them for their thoughtful diligence throughout this process,” added Santo. “As well, I’d like to thank everyone in the community that attended the open houses, presentations, and the public hearing earlier this year.  Your input was invaluable and has continued to enhance the project.”

Following receipt of all regulatory approvals, Gateway is to turn its attention to completing all design works, site preparations and the commencement of construction, which is set to begin in the New Year pending the finalisation of land arrangements with the owners.
