A lucky punter scored a “historic” $1m jackpot win from a $50 starting point in Colorado.
The guest of Monarch Casino Resort Spa in Black Hawk, Colorado, is the first in the casino’s twelve-year history to hit the $1m jackpot on a slot machine.
The progressive jackpot totaled $1,085,435.89 — not a bad day’s work from such a small wager.
Erica Ferris, director of marketing for Monarch Casino Resort Spa, told local news station KDVR: “We are thrilled to celebrate monumental wins like this with our guests.
“Jackpots like these are extremely rare, and to see one happen on our gaming floor was quite the spectacle.”
The win happened on Thursday, January 23, 2025, on the Dragon Link slot machine.
According to the casino, Dragon Link’s progressive jackpot “steadily increases with each wager that does not win the progressive” — aka, it grows over time because a small portion of each bet placed (that does not result in a jackpot win) is added to the jackpot pool.
The casino said this was the first time a guest had won a $1m+ jackpot in 12 years of operation.
Previously, the casino was known as the Riviera Black Hawk Casino before it was sold and renamed the Monarch Casino in 2013.
The Black Hawk Casino opened in 2000 before being sold to Monarch for $76m in 2011.
