Vietnamese police have arrested six people in a raid on a suspected online gambling ring that allegedly processed around $4 million worth of illegal bets.
The Vietnamese media outlet Tuoitre Online reported that Quang Tri Provincial Police officers arrested six people, mostly residents of the Mekong Delta-based Tan My commune, on illegal gambling and money laundering-related charges.
The group, officers said, made full confessions. Police say they ran at least three illegal gambling platforms, including the websites Hitclub, Sun Win, and Go88.
The group comprised five men and one woman. The youngest member is 20 years old, with the oldest suspect being 42 years old. All reside in Quang Tri province, a police spokesperson said.
Police think a 21-year-old suspect masterminded the operation, with the gang allegedly launching its activities in early 2025.
Vietnamese Online Gambling Crackdown
The police spokesperson said the group may have used accomplices to help them withdraw and launder gambling money from the casinos’ electronic wallets.
Officials stated that the group employed a range of sophisticated tactics to evade detection, including the use of anonymous social media accounts and privacy-focused chat apps.
A court has granted the police emergency detention orders. The spokesperson said police have “temporarily detained” all six individuals.
Police added that they were expanding the scope of the investigation. They concluded that the case was still ongoing as officers searched for more suspects.
Baccarat-fueled Bedroom Break-in
Late last month, the same media outlet reported that police in Tay Ninh Province had arrested a shop employee for breaking into his employer’s bedroom to steal money to feed his gambling addiction.

The man confessed to the charges, admitting that he had become addicted to betting on baccarat games. He said he had stolen jewelry and cash to help fund his gambling habits.
The suspect told police he had worked for his female employer for three years. As such, he said, he knew where she kept her keys and was familiar with her security system.
Officers said the man broke into the bedroom on four separate occasions. He allegedly stole VND 20 million ($761) in cash and gold jewelry worth approximately VND 600 million (around $22,836) from a wardrobe in her bedroom.
Police explained that the man sold and pawned most of the jewelry and then used the money to gamble on an online baccarat platform.
Last year, the Vietnamese Finance Ministry launched a pilot for a $95-per-day casino entry fee system for domestic passport holders. The program also allows citizens to purchase monthly passes for approximately $1,900.
