The NFL is not allowing commercials for prediction markets to air during Super Bowl 60 between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks on Feb. 8. This year’s Big Game will be broadcast on NBC.

A source told Front Office Sports (FOS) that prediction markets are on the list of “prohibited categories” for the Super Bowl, which also includes tobacco, pornography, and firearms.

The source also noted that prediction-market commercials “have not been allowed on NFL broadcasts all season; they were added to the list of categories the NFL forbids” before the 2025 season started.

NFL: Prediction Markets Lack ‘Safeguards’

Prediction markets are no different than sports betting in the view of the NFL, and all league personnel are prohibited from trading on sports event contracts.

“Our view is that these platforms mimic sports betting, and that they are covered as prohibited conduct under our policy,” NFL Chief Compliance Officer Sabrina Perel said prior to the season.

The NFL believes that prediction markets lack the “safeguards” that are in place at state-regulated sportsbooks, including “prohibitions on easily manipulated markets.”

DraftKings & Fanatics Will Air Super Bowl Sportsbook Ads

A source told FOS that DraftKings “will have a Super Bowl ad of some kind.” Meanwhile, Fanatics is featuring reality star Kendall Jenner in its first-ever Super Bowl ad.

The NFL will limit the number of sports betting ads to six during Super Bowl 60. If inventory remains, other sportsbooks could jump into the fray, but they are not allowed to promote prediction markets. Thirty-second ads on NBC reportedly cost up to $10 million this year.

Last year’s Super Bowl drew 127.7 million viewers, making it the most-watched event in U.S. television history.
