The full tally for Super Bowl 60 betting at Las Vegas sportsbooks won’t be known until all prop bets are accounted for, but they’ve only lost twice since the Nevada Gaming Control Board started tracking results in 1991.
Here’s what is known about specific Super Bowl 60 results at some of the city’s most prominent sportsbooks.
Pros vs. Joes: Public Play ‘Nailed it’ With Seahawks
Sunday’s game was never in doubt. Seattle took a 9-0 lead into halftime and cruised to a 29-13 win over New England. The Seahawks were a big spread liability for the Westgate SuperBook.
“We were pretty lopsided on the spread. We took a pretty big beating on spread bets in this game,” Westgate VP of Race & Sports John Murray said. “Seattle was a very public side, and the public was clearly right. They nailed it.”
The SuperBook’s losses were mitigated, however, after several large moneyline bets came in on the Patriots.
“It seemed like some of the biggest bets in Nevada were on the Patriots,” Murray said. “Overall, we’ll end up doing OK on the game. We were glad to see the game stay under the total. The game staying under is usually good for most places.”
Talk about a sweat on the total. Eventual Super Bowl 60 MVP Kenneth Walker III‘s 49-yard rushing TD with 2:10 remaining in the game pushed the game OVER its 45.5-point total, but a holding penalty ultimately allowed the UNDER to cash.
Mixed Results at Other Vegas Books
Another huge sweat for sportsbooks all the way into the fourth quarter? The Seahawks led 12-0, and neither team had scored a touchdown. Had the result held, the no-touchdown prop would have cashed at over 200-1 odds.
“The town would’ve got barbecued on that one,” Boomer’s Sportsbook Director of Trading Nick Bogdanovich said.
The teams finally combined for three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a bad beat for Bogdanovich’s book, which took a hit in several markets on Super Bowl Sunday.
“The game itself was a complete loser,” Bogdanovich said. “They bet Seattle minus the points and Seattle on the moneyline and under, so we lost all three of those.”
Circa Sportsbook fared better, with massive moneyline bets on New England helping the cause.
“We ended up with a good result,” said Circa Vice President of Operations Mike Palm. “We took a second million-dollar Pats moneyline bet before kickoff.”
That $1 million bet on New England (+200) to win the game outright came just prior to kickoff. Circa had previously taken a $1.1 million moneyline bet on the Pats (+188), too. That bettor hedged futures bets on the Seahawks at Circa and BetMGM, which returned $6.75 million.
