Best Bet on Favorite to Win Valspar Championship
Xander Schauffele (+1050)
Xander Schauffele (pictured above, lining up a putt at Quail Hollow) is the betting favorite with Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy out. The X-Man is the only player with a top-10 ranking in this week’s field.
Schauffele is coming off an impressive solo third-place finish in the Players Championship. He led the field in SG: Approach the Green and finished tied for fifth in greens in regulation.
He’s also performed well at the Copperhead Course, finishing T-12, T-5, and T-12 in three of his last four starts.
Best Bet on Sleeper Pick to Win Valspar Championship
Corey Connors (+3200)
One of the tour’s best ball strikers, Corey Connors has recent finishes of T-8, T-21, and T-16 at Copperhead, a course that features relatively easy greens to navigate.
That’s good news for Connors, who can be erratic with the putter at times. He also won at TPC San Antonio, which compares favorably to Copperhead.
Connors is coming off his best finish of the season, a T-13 at last week’s Players Championship. He could land his third PGA Tour win this weekend if the flat stick cooperates.
Best Bet on Longshot to Win Valspar Championship
Marco Penge (+10000)
Englishman Marco Penge won three events on the DP World Tour last season, including the Open de España after a three-month ban for violating the tour’s betting rules. Penge, who wagered on major golf tournaments and the Ryder Cup between 2022 and 2023, did not participate in any of those events.
Now competing in the US, Penge recorded a T-16 finish at the Genesis Invitational, which is his lone highlight so far. He headed into the season with big expectations as one of the most talented rookies on the PGA Tour. At 100-1, Penge is worth a small toss here.
