Best Bet on Favorite to Win CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Scottie Scheffler (+154)
Backing Scheffler at these odds is no fun, but the world’s No. 1 player is overdue for a win. He made his PGA Tour debut here in 2014, finishing T-22 at the age of 17.
Scheffler entered last week’s PGA Championship with three straight runner-up finishes, but a balky putter left him at T-14 in the second major of the year. Still, Scheffler leads the tour in scoring average (69.24) and birdie average (4.88).
This track produces low scores, but the players will see longer rough off the fairways as part of a course renovation.
Scheffler won last year’s event at TPC Craig Ranch by eight strokes. An encore performance could be coming this week after he finished at 31-under-par a year ago.

Jordan Spieth (+1850)
Another Texas native, Jordan Spieth (pictured above), made his PGA Tour debut as a 16-year-old at TPC Craig Ranch. He matched his age with a T-16 finish.
Spieth looked more like himself with a T-18 finish in last week’s PGA Championship, which he needs to win to complete the career grand slam. That may come next year when the event is contested in Texas.
Last year, Spieth finished fourth in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. He also finished runner-up in 2022.
Fun fact: Spieth ranks 11th on tour with 13 hole-outs this season.
Best Bet on Longshot to Win CJ Cup Byron Nelson
Ryo Hisatsune (+4800)
Ryo Hisatsune is looking for his first win on the PGA Tour, but he’s threatened on multiple occasions this season:
- Farmers Insurance Open (T-2)
- WM Phoenix Open (T-10)
- AT+T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (T-8)
- Valero Texas Open (T-8)
Hisatsune also boasts some impressive scoring metrics. He’s amassed 230 total birdies this season, ranking second on tour only behind Si Woo Kim (244).
Hisatsune is also tied for third in the lowest round of the season. He scorched Pebble Beach for a 62 in the opening round. His first victory is seemingly in reach.
