The 151st running of the Preakness Stakes is set for Saturday at Laurel Park in Laurel, Maryland. Post time is 6:50 p.m. ET with live coverage on NBC.

Iron Honor is the 9-2 morning line favorite, and the Chad Brown-trained horse drew the No. 9 post. This marks the first year since 1908 that the race will not be held at Pimlico Race Course, which is undergoing a massive redevelopment.

Best Bets to Win Preakness Stakes

    Taj Mahal (5-1)

This is a home game for Taj Mahal, who is undefeated after three starts at Laurel Park. Brittany Russell has a chance to become the first female trainer to win the Preakness Stakes. Cheri DeVaux earned that distinction for the Kentucky Derby when Golden Tempo won.

Taj Mahal boasts an impressive 92 Beyer Speed Figure after winning his last time out at Laurel Park. The wire-to-wire win over nine furlongs portends good things in the Preakness, which covers 9-1/2 furlongs. Taj Mahal’s final five-furlong workout was also strong.

    Chip Honcho (5-1)

Chip Honcho drew the No. 6 post, which has produced more Preakness wins (17) than any other gate.

Trainer Steve Asmussen opted to skip the Kentucky Derby in favor of the Preakness. Jockey Jose Ortiz, who won his first Kentucky Derby riding Golden Tempo, has a nice chance here for another Triple Crown victory.

Notably, Chip Honcho finished 5-1/2 lengths ahead of Golden Tempo in December’s Risen Stakes. His strong run produced a runner-up finish to Paladin.

    Ocelli (6-1)

Ocelli entered the Kentucky Derby as a 70-1 longshot, the longest on the board, and nearly produced an epic upset. Ocelli lost by a length and finished third.

Ocelli also finished third in the Wood Memorial, a critical Derby prep race. He has yet to break his maiden, but Ocelli produced his best Beyer Speed Figure (94) in the Kentucky Derby. That puts him in good standing in this 14-horse field.

Ocelli will make history if he gets his first win on Saturday. A maiden hasn’t won the Preakness Stakes since 1888 when Refund captured the victory.
