Golf’s third major is upon us with the US Open teeing off Thursday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, Long Island.
This beast of a course, at 7,440 yards, will provide the ultimate test for the world’s best golfers, who may also have to contend with wind and rain this week.
The winning scores of the last four US Opens at Shinnecock were +1, -4, even, and -1. J.J. Spaun is the defending US Open champion after winning his first major title last year.

Best Bet on Favorite to Win US Open
Cameron Young +2050
Cameron Young is in the midst of his finest season after winning The Players and Cadillac Championship. He also finished T-3 in The Masters.
Scottie Scheffler remains the No. 1 player in the world, but nobody’s played as well as Young this season. You’re getting nearly five times the value here with Scheffler priced at +465.
Young is also coming off a career-best T-4 finish in last year’s US Open at Oakmont, another difficult test of golf.
Young, who hails from nearby Scarborough, N.Y., became the first amateur to win the New York State Open back in 2017.
Best Bet on Sleeper to Win US Open
Robert MacIntyre (+6200)
With wind and rain in the forecast this week, Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre should feel right at home. “Bob” handles those conditions well, giving him a potential edge depending on the severity of the elements. Gusts could reach as high as 33 mph on Thursday when the tournament tees off.
MacIntyre won the Scottish Open and Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at the Renaissance Club and St. Andrew’s, respectively. He will be chomping at the bit to perform well this week after failing to make the cut at The Masters and the PGA Championship. He had a nice tune-up in last week’s Canadian Open, finishing T-15 at TPC Toronto.
MacIntyre will also have some positive vibes after finishing runner-up to surprise winner J.J. Spaun in last year’s US Open. It was his best-ever finish in a major tournament.
Best Bet on Longshot to Win US Open
Aaron Rai +10500
Can lightning strike twice in two straight majors? Aaron Rai shocked the golfing world by winning last month’s PGA Championship. He was 290-1 at DraftKings before the tournament started! That’s worthy of an exclamation point.
Players have to be accurate off the tee and on approach at Shinnecock. Rai ranks second on the tour in driving accuracy and 17th in approach this season. He’s worth a small toss at these odds.
