Caesars Entertainment has been buying up properties around its ailing Horseshoe Casino in South Baltimore, reports the Baltimore Sun.

State land records show the casino’s partnership group is acquiring sites in the area as part of a plan to develop a larger and more sophisticated entertainment district.

The ultimate aim is to establish a sports and entertainment district that links the casino to the football stadium and baseball park, and to the city’s Inner Harbor, reports the Sun.

Acquisitions include a warehouse and office building for a total of $8m, with options also acquired on two parking lots.

Revenues at the Horseshoe Casino Baltimore have been hit hard since the $1.4bn MGM National Harbor – 45 miles from the Caesars property – opened in December 2016. Table games revenues fell 22 per cent year on year with overall revenues also slumping, by 16 per cent.
