Relax Gaming: Ontario opening could be a turning point for the region

Ontario boasts “sizable growth potential” states Relax Gaming, after the igaming aggregator and supplier gains approvals to enter the region when the newly regulated market debuts on Monday 4 April.

This move into the Canadian gaming market, says Relax Gaming, will aid wider expansion plans across further North American regions, which it anticipates will come to fruition later in the year.

It’s expected that Relax will debut with 130 games across multiple operators, with almost half of these titles coming from 16 of its partner studios.

The latest string of the firm’s global expansion strategy is praised as a “major milestone” by Relax Gaming, which was recently awarded a supplier licence from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.

“The opening of the Ontario province marks the long-awaited debuts of regulated operations in Canada and is truly a turning point for the industry in the region,” noted Alexia Smilovic Rønde, Chief Regulatory Officer at Relax Gaming.

“AGCO’s pragmatic regulation and approach to licensing should deliver a good channelization from all the stakeholders over time.

“Relax Gaming is delighted to be part of this journey from the very beginning, as well as offer its compliant portfolio and suite of partners under our regulatory umbrella, to make an equally swift and brilliant entry on the local scene.”

Beginning April 4, private gaming operators that have registered with the AGCO and have executed an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario can begin offering their games to players in the region.

Earlier in the week, the Responsible Gambling Council disclosed that its RG Check accreditation program had been “embedded into the requirements for all online gaming operators entering the Ontario marketplace” by the iGC.

This program, which is already utilised by land-based casinos in the region, will aim to ensure the highest standards of responsible gambling are maintained when operators enter the market.
