PokerStars ‘can’t wait to get started’ after gaining Ontario approval

PokerStars has documented a significant development within its home market after having its licence application rubber stamped by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to launch in the province.

This will see the Flutter Entertainment brand go live with the three verticals of poker, casino, and sport, which will allow access to more than 5,000 online gaming titles.

To mark the launch of the PokerStars CAON platform, the brand will also be hosting a special series, titled the Ontario Platinum Series, exclusively for those in Ontario from July 10-18, offering a $1.5m guaranteed prize pool.

Furthermore, a weekly flagship event known as the New Sunday Majors will be hosted, which comes with a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool.

“In many respects Ontario is our home market, given the first ever hand of PokerStars was played here over 20 years ago, so we are thrilled about the new regulated environment within which our players can play”, said Tom Warren, MD of Marketing at PokerStars.

“A lot has changed in that time, but our commitment to offering our players the most epic and thrilling experience in the market hasn’t – and we can’t wait to get started.”

Furthermore, PokerStars has also stressed that it is “looking forward to working closely” with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment to provide players with rewards, opportunities, and experiences.

Flutter’s PokerStars and FanDuel brands struck an alliance with the group in April, with the latter designated as an official sports betting partner while the former teamed-up with MLSE in an official gaming capacity.

MLSE is the parent company of the National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leafs, the National Basketball Association’s Toronto Raptors Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC, the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts and development teams with the Toronto Marlies (American Hockey League), Raptors 905 (NBA G League) and Toronto FC II (United Soccer League).
