Boyd Gaming has elaborated on the “attractive growth opportunity” presented by igaming across the US after the group closed its $170m Pala Interactive purchase.

The acquisition, which was first announced in March 2022, sees the operator secure igaming technology that includes a player management system; casino, social casino and poker platforms, along with integrated sports and a suite of managed services.

“Online casino gaming is an attractive growth opportunity for our company, and the acquisition of Pala Interactive provides us with the technology, products and expertise to create a profitable regional online casino business,” explained Keith Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boyd Gaming.

“We look forward to working with the Pala Interactive team in executing our online casino gaming strategy, which will complement our existing land-based operations and further expand our nationwide customer base.”

In a third-quarter earnings call last month, Boyd voiced an expectation of strengthening “solid nationwide operating results” through “several projects that are beginning to come online”.

In addition to touching on efforts alongside California’s Sky River Casino and FanDuel, which referenced Kansas and Ohio specifically, the company looked ahead to completion of this aforementioned purchase.

Once achieved, Boyd said that migration of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania focused Stardust igaming brands would commence.

“We believe we have the foundation to successfully build a profitable, regional, online casino operation that leverages our industry-wide experience, our existing geographic presence, and our proven customer database,” Smith noted at the time.

“Pala will provide us with the technology, products and management expertise to execute this strategy. Online gaming has become an important part of the growth story for our industry, and we are focused on building a profitable online business that will enhance our existing land-based operations.”
