Entain has made its maiden moves through the newly formed central and Eastern Europe division after formalising the €800m purchase of SuperSport.
The online casino and sportsbook operator is intended to be a “springboard” for expansion across the region, which will be led by Radim Haluza, Supersport CEO.
The purchase was initially detailed on August 11, 2022, when Entain teamed-up with Emma Capital in a bid to “drive expansion in the highly attractive CEE market”.
The acquisition comes alongside the establishment of Entain CEE, whose ownership is split 75 per cent to 25 per cent between the former GVC and Emma Capital, and takes Entain’s total transactions for the year-to-date to five. SuperSport is lauded as boasting a near 50 per cent share in the regulated Croatian market.
Entain CEE is a unique platform created to unlock what is lauded as a €5bn regulated betting and gaming market opportunity across CEE.
Jette Nygaard-Anderson, Entain’s CEO, commented: “We are very pleased to have completed the acquisition of SuperSport, which is the first by the newly created Entain CEE.
“SuperSport expands our operations into the highly attractive and regulated Croatian market, as well as establishing Entain CEE as a strategic growth platform into the wider region. We look forward to working with Radim and the SuperSport team alongside EMMA Capital as we execute on this exciting opportunity.”
Earlier in the week Entain lauded an “important and welcome step” in the German online gambling ecosystem after confirming receipt of gaming and poker licence.
The certifications, which see the operator become the first such entity licensed to offer online poker, were awarded by the State Administrative Office of Saxony-Anhalt for the operation of such services throughout Germany.
