Kambi has announced that CEO and Co-Founder, Kristian Nylén, will be stepping down from his current position in 2024 once a successor has been appointed.

The company’s Nomination Committee has also noted that it has proposed appointing Nylén to its board of directors at its forthcoming 2024 Annual General Meeting. A nomination has also been put forward for igaming investor and advisor, Benjie Cherniak.

Stepping down from his position as CEO, Nylén founded Kambi alongside Anders Ström in 2010, helping the company become a strong sportsbook supplier within the gambling industry.

Nylén stated that the reason why he is standing down from the position of Kambi CEO is to spend more time with his family.

“The decision to stand down from my position at Kambi after so many enjoyable years has been difficult, but one predominantly driven by my desire to spend more time with my young and growing family,” he said.

“As co-founder, my heart and professional allegiance remain firmly with Kambi, therefore, I am honoured to accept the Nomination Committee’s proposal to join the board.

“Pending my election at the forthcoming AGM, I look forward to focusing more intensively on the strategic aspects of our business, however, my immediate attention remains on driving Kambi forward in my current role.”

Kambi’s Nomination Committee has also proposed to elect Ström as Chair of the Board.

Commenting on Nylén, Ström added: “Kristian’s role has been critical in positioning Kambi as a frontrunner in our sector. His strategic foresight and unwavering commitment have been central to our many achievements over the years.

“I am delighted the Nomination Committee has proposed Kristian for the Board, where his extensive industry knowledge will continue to greatly benefit Kambi.”

Ström continued: “I am confident that Kristian’s insights and proficiency will persist in advancing the company and creating value for our shareholders.

“His potential transition to a board position reflects his enduring dedication to Kambi as both a founder and a major shareholder, while also ensuring a consistent and stable strategic course for the company.

“The search for a new CEO will commence immediately and we will provide updates as they become available.”

As previously mentioned, Cherniak has also been put forward by the Nomination Committee for Kambi’s board.

An independent investor and advisor in the igaming space, he was also previously a Managing Director at Scientific Games (now Light & Wonder) following the company’s acquisition of Don Best Sports, where he was the company’s Principal and Managing Director between 2007 and 2018.

In addition, Kambi’s Nomination Committee has also proposed the re-election of Ström, Patrick Clase, Marlene Forsell and Cecilia de Leeuw to its board of directors.
