Kangwon Land, the operator of the only South Korean casino that admits domestic passport holders, says it has created the world’s first AI-powered, fully robotic casino counting room.
The South Korean media outlets EToday and Gangwon Ilbo reported that the operator began a closed-door pilot for the room in September this year.
A spokesperson for Kangwon Land explained: “Our new counting room combines AI and robotics technology. Following a two-month pilot, we have now begun full-scale operations in the room.”

AI Casino Counting Room Is ‘Fully Automated’
The spokesperson stated that the “state-of-the-art automated facility” utilizes robots to collect cash from slot machines and gaming tables.
The room also uses robot arms and sophisticated algorithms to inspect, count, and package cash. The operator said the new room helps “improve the accuracy and transparency of cash management” at the High1 casino.
The operator added that the solution has automated the “entire” cash management process at High1.
The spokesperson said it had “significantly improved speed and efficiency” at the casino. The innovation is also “helping prevent musculoskeletal disorders” among employees, Kangwon Land said.
Kangwon Land stated that the project aligns with the government’s policy of “fostering the AI industry and the digital transformation of all industries.”
Lee Gyeong-sik, the head of Kangwon Land’s Digital Innovation Department, said that the move would help “improve the working environment for our employees.”

More AI Innovations Coming?
The operator said that it plans to “build on this achievement” by “creating a future-focused resort operation model.” It vowed to boost customer satisfaction by embarking on a “company-wide digital transformation.”
This, the firm said, will include “the gradual expansion of cutting-edge IT developments, including generative AI, robotics, and process automation technology.”
Artificial intelligence is starting to play a larger role in the broader casino industry, as platforms begin to experiment with innovations, including AI-powered dealers.
Share prices in many South Korean casino operators have continued to climb this month. Financial experts attribute this to increased foot traffic and a surge in overseas investment.
In September, Kangwon Land announced that it had launched South Korea’s first dedicated residential treatment center for gambling addiction. The operator partnered with the Korea Institute for Gambling Problem Prevention and Treatment on the project.
The center provides gambling addicts with group counseling sessions, psychological education, outdoor sessions, music therapy, meditation, and yoga.
