Prosecutors have asked a court to jail another young female Indonesian Instagram star for at least two years, after she allegedly promoted an online casino.
Online casinos are banned in Indonesia, and courts can jail or fine anyone who uses their social media pages to endorse them.
Prosecutors told the court that the woman, Rahmawati Puspita Ningrum, made IDR 2 million (around $112) from endorsing the site.
Indonesia’s online casino crackdown continues to gather pace, with courts last year jailing several young women on similar charges. Some of the women are as young as 19.
Indonesian Instagram Star Makes ‘Leniency’ Appeal
Rahmawati asked the court for “leniency” when she made a pre-sentencing appearance at a branch of the Surabaya District Court on July 21.
Prosecutors have charged her with “offering or giving the public the opportunity to gamble without a permit,” the Indonesian media outlet Memorandum reported.
Prosecutors said Rahmawati had not “merely made simple posts” promoting the gambling site on Instagram.
Instead, they said, she had provided the public “with access to online gambling activities for personal gain.”
Police told the court that a man who called himself Justin sent Rahmawati a WhatsApp message in October 2025.
Justin allegedly told Rahmawati he would pay her to promote an online gambling site named martabak188 via a URL mirroring link.
The defendant allegedly accepted the offer and made a series of posts related to the site on her Instagram account.
Justin duly made three payments to Rahmawati’s DANA digital wallet, prosecutors told the court.
Cyberpolice tracked the payments and arrested Rahmawati on December 4, 2025, a day after she reportedly received her final payment from Justin.
Officers said they arrested the suspect at a rumah kos, a type of boarding house popular among students and young graduates.
Hunt for Middle-Man ‘Justin’ Continues
The courts did not disclose Rahmawati’s age, but some of her Instagram posts from 2018 show her standing in a classroom while wearing a school uniform, along with other students.
Her Instagram account still has almost 15,000 followers, and her Threads page has over 1,100. Her TikTok page, however, is no longer active.
Police say they are still searching for the man known only as Justin, adding that he remains “at large.”
Prosecutors also asked the court to fine Rahmawati IDR 100,000 ($6). They requested that she serve an additional month in prison if she cannot afford to pay the fine.
Earlier this month, the Indonesian government said it had taken down 3.1 million gambling-related websites and social media posts to date.
