Major League Baseball has added its third gaming partnership of the year, after unveiling an agreement with fantasy sports provider and sportsbook operator FanDuel Group.

Lauded as a “landmark deal,” as well as FanDuel’s first alongside the MLB or one of its affiliated teams, the multi-year partnership sees the firm become authorised gaming operator of the MLB.

This builds upon current deals previously agreed by the league alongside MGM Resorts International earlier in the year and DraftKings last month.

Under the terms of the deal FanDuel is to gain access to official MLB data, which it plans to use to heighten its overall sports wagering experience, more specifically its in-play segment that the firm states accounts for in excess of 50 per cent of total business across its sportsbook vertical.

Furthermore, the firm, which forms part of the Flutter Entertainment family, is to also gain the ability to utilise league and team marks and logos across its online sports betting products and retail sportsbook locations.

“FanDuel has proven itself to be a leader in the sports betting space and has shifted a step ahead again through its commitment to, and recognition of, the value in being an authorised gaming operator,” commented Kenny Gersh, MLB executive vice president of gaming and new business ventures.

“Now having access to our official sports betting data feeds and MLB brands, we’re looking forward to the creative sports betting and fan experience innovations FanDuel will develop.”

The new agreement builds on similar deals enjoyed by FanDuel across another US sports, with partnerships in place alongside the National Basketball Association’s Brooklyn Nets and National Hockey League franchise New Jersey Devils.

Kip Levin, president and COO of FanDuel Group, added: “Fantasy sports and sports betting have become a national pastime in their own right, so it’s natural to join forces with Major League Baseball.

“MLB clearly understands how working together can be beneficial for baseball fans and both companies alike.”

“Baseball is one of the most popular sports to bet on and partnering with MLB allows us to make the betting experience even better for our customers.

“With an enhanced betting experience, sports fans are watching more baseball as they have a stake in the game.”
