New Hampshire’s The Brook has announced an immediate pause on all operations, with a week-long closure to commence due to rising COVID-19 positive cases across New England.

The property says that it intends to reopen on Thursday 17 December; documenting a revised schedule that will see the facility remain closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The Brook, which was acquired by Nevada-based Eureka Casino Resorts in 2019, says that the shutdown is “in the best interest of all concerned” and represents a decision that ensures that the company adheres to its core values.

Andre Carter, CEO of The Brook, explained: “As COVID-19 positive cases test results surge across New England, The Brook has seen cases arise on property. At this moment, we believe it is in the best interest of our employee-owners, and our community, for The Brook to pause operations in order to make our small contribution to the work that must be done to flatten the curve.

“To that end, The Brook will be closed from now until Thursday 17th. When we reopen on the 17th, we will operate five days per week, choosing to close on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

“During Christmas week, we will close Tuesday 22nd – Friday 25th to allow our employee owners to celebrate the Christmas holiday and to allow for more time for the peak to pass.

“Since many of you, our guests, show such great care and concern, please know that our employee owners will be compensated during this pause in operation.”

Formerly known as Seabrook Park, upon acquiring the 75-acre property Eureka Casino Resorts began a year-long, multimillion-dollar project to completely remodel and rebrand the 90,000 square foot facility.

Cases of COVID-19 in the US are nearing 16 million according to latest figures, with 218,473 new cases reported on December 9. The country is said to have set records for cases, deaths and hospitalisations in recent days.

“As a 100 per cent employee owned family business, our core values call us to serve our guests, community, and one another, with care, compassion, and dedication,” Carter added.

“Since reopening, that service has taken the shape of safety and sanitisation practices such as installing hospital grade MERV air filtration, installing protective plexiglass, utilising electric dispersion sprayers, targeting and randomised COVID testing, QR codes for guest registration, and of course sufficient inventories of PPE. At this moment, we believe that pausing operations keeps us true to our core values.

“Though these are difficult times, this is also the season of thankfulness and a time to reflect on our blessings. We are so very grateful for the remarkable support we have received from our guests since opening The Brook. We will use this time to find new ways to further improve safety and further improve fun.”
