In our CasinoBeats Rhymes and Life feature we are revealing the soundtracks that provide a backdrop for the gaming industry.

In this edition, we spoke to Nick McDonald, Global Account Director at Fujitsu, as he revealed the time he missed out on seeing Michael Jackson at Wembley and why a night out with a British superstar would be unmatched.

What was your first-ever gig, and what was it like?

The first gig that I remember going to was Michael Jackson at Wembley, as part of his Dangerous tour. I went to the concert with my mum, although the concert itself was cut short.

We managed to see the warm-up act, but after their set finished, MJ’s manager came on stage to tell us that Michael was unwell and wouldn’t be able to perform that day. Luckily, we were able to see him at a later date.

What’s the best performance you have ever seen live, and why was it so good?

This is a tough one! I’ve attended Glastonbury Festival a few times now, and each time, there have been some incredible acts; it would be so difficult to narrow it down to just one favourite. There are, however, a few performances that stick out for me and that’s Coldplay and Rudimental – they were fantastic!

Is there an artist who, in your eyes, can do no wrong? If so, why?

I would definitely have to say Ed Sheeran. I think that his natural talent, charisma and humbleness is really what sets him apart from other artists. For me, he can do no wrong.

What is your most cherished album, and what makes it so special to you?

It’s almost impossible to pick just one. I enjoy so many different artists, and different genres of music, that I couldn’t possibly just pick one album.

I did dabble in DJing back in the day though, so I would probably have to say that my vinyl collection – which seems to have gathered some dust up in the loft – would have to be my favourite. They bring back some great memories!

What song always makes it to your gym playlist? What activities do you usually do in the gym while listening to it?

Anything drum and bass, or dance music! I wouldn’t say that there is one particular song, but I do enjoy anything with a fast beat when working out. It makes that time on the bike, or lifting weights, that bit more enjoyable.

Which artist or song helps take your mind off work? Why have you chosen this artist and genre?

Hmm … Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and Bastille would all definitely make that list. And then artists like Fred Again, they always help take my mind off work and help keep me motivated during the work day. It’s just hard not to sing along all day!

If you could go on a night out with any musician, who would it be, and where would you take them?

I know I’ve mentioned him a few times now, but it would absolutely have to be Ed Sheeran. I’d just love to pick his brain on all things music and how he started out. We’d go down to my local, sink a few pints and I’d definitely ask for him to perform during one of the open mic nights.
