Alderney-based gambling company Greentube Alderney Limited has agreed to pay a £1 million fine after an investigation by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) found failures in social responsibility and anti-money laundering.

Greentube Alderney, otherwise known as Admiral Casino, reached a settlement with the UKGC over Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) breaches. The commission states that the money paid out will contribute towards socially responsible purposes.

The UKGC posted a report on January 9, 2025, outlining specific instances of compliance failures from the gambling company. This is the first action taken by the UKGC since April 2024, when Bet365 agreed to a settlement of over £580,000.

Social responsibility shortcomings include failure to base customer limits on sustainable income, checking the validity of customer documents, and neglecting to identify signs of vulnerability or potential harm.

Anti-money laundering failures include inconsistent scrutiny that could otherwise avoid delays in identifying laundering, not always following its “risky occupations” policy, and not fully investigating accounts with links to other accounts.

Greentube Alderney Limited accepted failings in the early stages of the investigation and responded to the assessment with a promptly assembled action plan.

The business faced a similar penalty in 2021, where it paid a £685,000 fine over AML and similar failures in money laundering and social responsibility.

John Pierce, commission director of enforcement, said: “This case arose from a follow-up compliance assessment designed to ensure the operator had continued to apply lessons learned from previous regulatory action.

He added: “While we noted that the business had made significant general improvements, further regulatory breaches were still identified.

“The operator was subsequently required to swiftly put in place an effective action plan designed to remedy all of the identified failings.

“We want to remind all operators that any business found to breach rules designed to keep gambling safe and free from crime for a second time should expect increasingly stringent enforcement action.

“Any failure to uphold anti-money laundering standards is unacceptable, and today’s action reflects the gravity of the breaches identified.

“We will continue to monitor this operator to ensure they consistently meet the required regulatory standards.”

Admiral Casino, in the past, was awarded the GamCare safer gambling standard in 2022.
