Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin posted on X, “Take the Over,” and sportsbooks were quick to jump on the mention of a potential bet.

Kiffin was responding to a post from his daughter, Landry Kiffin, originally posted on Instagram, but shared on X. She posted a picture alongside LSU’s star linebacker, Whit Weeks, effectively announcing their relationship.

Sportsbooks and media outlets have been quick to jump on the chance to suggest backing the over line in the match. Betr replied, “Say less dad,” with a screenshot of a $500 bet on the over line.

DraftKings also replied, posting only “Oh” and an emoji of eyes looking to the side.

The tongue-in-cheek comment did not have enough impact to move the line, however. Sportsbooks have dropped the total from its original 56.5 down to 54.5.

Usually, a college football coach posting a bet recommendation would be met with an NCAA investigation, but the context of the comment means Kiffin is unlikely to receive any backlash.

There was another social media storm recently when users discovered that John Mateer had made Venmo transactions labeled as “sports gambling.” Mateer claimed the posts were jokes and has not faced any repercussions.

Relationship ‘Nothing to do With the Game’

After making the post on X, he stressed that the relationship between his daughter and Weeks has nothing to do with the game.

Speaking at the Southeastern Conference weekly teleconference, he said, “Whit’s an awesome kid and comes from a great family. And glad that those two are happy together. It has nothing to do with the game itself.”

He also referenced the Netflix documentary, “Any Given Saturday,” which features the Weeks family. He added, “So, it’s a really great family, and I think a lot of people got to see that probably on the SEC special when they were hunting with the family.”

The 50-year-old, who has spoken openly about his alcoholism, also confesses to using social media too much. He has amassed over 700,000 followers on X, where his background picture shows a message, “Lane Kiffin tweets too much. He will probably tweet this, too.”

Kiffin says he has changed his outlook on life recently, as featured in “The Many Lives of Lane Kiffin,” which airs on ESPN on Thursday. He said he hopes the documentary will help others alter their perspective on life.
