Before joining CasinoBeats, Kris covered the sports betting industry at Gaming Today, where he created the "Bookmaker Spotlight" series. These one-on-one interviews with Sports Betting Hall of Fame inductees Chris Andrews and Jay Kornegay, among others, featured some of the most legendary bookmakers in Las Vegas.
Kris actively covered state launches for legal sports betting in New York, Ohio, Massachusetts, and North Carolina. The latter stands out for the greater Charlotte metro area resident, who was on hand when North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper signed the bill into law at the Spectrum Center in March 2024.
Kris is also a two-time winner of the Catlin Award for Excellence in Journalism for his feature work at NASCAR Illustrated, where he also received numerous national press association awards for race coverage and columns.
Additionally, Kris wrote a sports-betting novel entitled The Endgame. His journalism career began at a Gannett newspaper in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., where he was responsible for daily production of "The Pink Sheet" during the summer thoroughbred meet at Saratoga Race Course.
Kris then joined the Detroit Red Wings as director of media relations for the NHL team's top minor league affiliate in upstate New York. He went on to spend four years with MMI/IMG in Charlotte, where he ended his tenure as publicist for NASCAR champion Dale Jarrett on behalf of sponsor UPS.
Kris received a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College, majoring in history with a minor in psychology.
