Las Vegas Sands (LVS) have introduced Project Protect, a new global initiative designed to further enhance its performances in the fields of responsible gaming, anti-money laundering and human trafficking prevention.
Becoming LVS’ third “major global social responsibility initiative,” the US casino resort organisation is further driving its community safeguards while “demonstrating leadership” in how it addresses critical social issues.
Completing LVS’ efforts across a number of core areas, Project Protect’s introduction “marks the formalisation of its policies and procedures for addressing these issues at a uniform global level”.
Commencing with educational activities for team members centred around Responsible Gaming Education Week (August 6-10), Project Protect aims to ensure “comprehensive and systematised training and education” exceed government regulations and standard industry performance.
Lon Jacobs, executive vice president and global general counsel at LVS, explained: “Our commitment to adhering to government and industry regulations has never wavered, but Project Protect takes a major step toward prevention and elimination of these issues at our properties, by providing the right tools and education for our team members to identify problems and act swiftly and responsibly.
“Our goal is zero tolerance for negative or harmful activity in our properties to safeguard our guests, our Team Members and the communities where we operate.”
Training’s undertaken as part of the new initiative will build upon current responsible gaming education programs, with the new curriculum including educating teams members on global and regional money laundering and human trafficking threats, the risks to LVS’s guests and business, and how the hospitality industry can identify and best address problems.
Ron Reese, senior vice president of global corporate communications and corporate affairs at LVS, added: “Project Protect complements our corporate social responsibility mission by enhancing and institutionalising responsible business practices in the areas that most negatively impact our industry.
“The program represents our deep commitment to making our communities not only safe but thriving places to live and work.”
