Gateway Casinos and Entertainment is to reopen its Starlight Casino in Edmonton this week in accordance with Alberta’s ‘Open for Summer Plan’.

The property will adhere to all public health guidelines outlined by Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, align with guidance from Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis, and implement stringent health and safety measures that have been deployed across the company’s network.

Upon reopening, which is slated to take place on June 10, Gateway says that there will be a number of amenities for customers to access on its gaming floor, including an array of slot machines, the Replay Arena and table games, excluding poker.

“We are excited to be included in the province’s plan and to be reopening one of our signature properties in Edmonton, Starlight Casino at the West Edmonton Mall, and welcome back some of our team members and customers,” stated Tony Santo, CEO at Gateway Casinos.

“As always, the health and safety of our employees and customers are paramount. We look forward to a safe and steady restart and the return to full operations as it is safe and viable to do so.”

Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan aims to ease restrictions in three stages as vaccination targets are reached and hospitalisations decline, and targets lifting all measures by late June or early July.

The region entered stage one on June 1, and has subsequently met the targets to enter stage two on June 10 as long as hospitalisations continue to decline.

“We operate in one of the most highly regulated business environments in the province with more rigorous oversight and controls than any other business in the hospitality sector,” added Santo.

“At Gateway, we have developed extensive health and safety plans that have been independently reviewed by a health and safety subject matter expert and have been submitted to Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis.”
