The Dutch gambling authority Kansspelautoriteit has imposed two binding instructions on hosting provider Cloudflare to cease and desist from providing some of its affiliate services.

According to the KSA, Cloudflare’s affiliate websites – nederlandscasinos.net and onlinecasinosspelen.com – have allowed Dutch players to participate in illegal games of chance.

Under the country’s Gambling Act, it is prohibited to offer games of chance in the country without a licence from the KSA, and promoting unlicensed gambling is also not allowed.

Measures have been introduced by the Dutch authority to combat illegal offerings, such as putting up barriers from payments and internet providers to these services, making it more difficult to access them.

Since the owner’s identity can’t be asserted for both websites, the KSA has decided that Cloudflare will receive the binding designation for being a provider of both websites in the Netherlands.

The Dutch gambling authority added that Cloudflare must stop providing these services within two weeks, or they could face further punishment, such as a penalty and/or a fine.

This week, the KSA imposed a fine of €3m on Entain-owned BetEnt for violations of the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Prevention) Act.
