In the NFL’s modern era, it’s a daunting task to bet on anyone other than a quarterback to win Super Bowl MVP.

With two solid defensive teams in Seattle and New England taking the field in Super Bowl 60, though, a case can be made for non-QBs this time around. Here, we discuss Super Bowl MVP odds with an eye on picks and best bets for players other than Sam Darnold and Drake Maye.

Best Bets on Non-QBs to Win Super Bowl MVP

After tossing Darnold and Maye from the list, we’ve whittled the list of best bets to three players to be named MVP of Super Bowl 60.

WR Jaxon Smith-Njibga (+550)

JSN led the NFL with 1,793 receiving yards on 119 catches during the regular season. He added 10 receiving TDs to those eye-popping stats.

Fellow WR Rashid Shaheed might be faster, but Smith-Njibga is the most dynamic player in this game. He’s coming off a huge tilt against the Rams, with 10 catches, 153 yards, and a TD in the 31-27 victory. Those numbers would be MVP-worthy if he could repeat that performance.

RB Kenneth Walker III (+750)

Walker will benefit from the absence of fellow RB Zach Charbonnet, who suffered a torn ACL in Seattle’s playoff opener against San Francisco. Walker went off in that game with 116 rushing yards and three TDs. He followed that up with 111 scrimmage yards and a TD in the win over Los Angeles.

Notably, Walker had 19 carries in both playoff games after operating in a timeshare with Charbonnet during the regular season. He’s also been a bigger factor in the passing game, with a combined seven catches and 78 receiving yards in the postseason. That’s worth noting because New England’s run defense is stout, but the Pats can be had through the air.

Walker would become the first running back to win Super Bowl MVP since Denver’s Terrell Davis in 1998.

WR Stefon Diggs (+5000)

Seattle is even better against the run. The Seahawks ranked third in rushing defense during the regular season, allowing just 91.9 ypg and nine TDs on the ground. They’ve yet to allow a rushing score in the playoffs. All that to say that New England RBs Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson shouldn’t be counted on for big numbers or TDs.

Diggs led the Pats with 85 catches, 102 targets, and 1,013 receiving yards during the regular season. He’s remained Maye’s top target during the postseason with 17. He leads New England with 11 playoff catches, and he found the end zone against the Texans.

Last 10 Super Bowl MVPs & Position

Seven of the last 10 Super Bowl MVPs have been quarterbacks, along with a pair of wide receivers and one linebacker:

Player/TeamPosition
Jalen Hurts/EaglesQuarterback
Patrick Mahomes/ChiefsQuarterback
Patrick Mahomes/ChiefsQuarterback
Cooper Kupp/RamsWide Receiver
Tom Brady/BuccaneersQuarterback
Patrick Mahomes/ChiefsQuarterback
Julian Edelman/Patriots Wide Receiver
Nick Foles/EaglesQuarterback
Tom Brady/Patriots Quarterback
Von Miller/BroncosLinebacker

Kupp could become a two-time winner of the Super Bowl MVP trophy. He’s a longshot at +9000, but he’s amassed nine catches for 96 yards and a TD in two playoff games so far.
