Michigan hits online gaming record through October

Michigan recorded a record for internet gaming gross receipts for October, which surpassed the previous best figure that was set in April of this year. 

Totalling $141m, online gaming gross receipts hit new heights in October, growing 9.5 per cent compared to September receipts of $128.7m and beating the previous record of $133.5m, which was achieved earlier this year in April. 

This came in a month that witnessed Michigan’s commercial and tribal operators report a combined total gross receipts and gross sports betting receipts of $190.2m during October, an increase of 7.7 per cent when compared to the month prior, which totalled $176.5m. 

Furthermore, operators submitted $28.3m in taxes and payments to the state of Michigan during September, with internet gaming taxes and fees contributing $26.3m compared to online sports betting, which provided $1.9m. 

Gross sports betting receipts were $49.2m compared with $47.8m in September for a 2.9 per cent increase.

Combined total adjusted internet gaming gross receipts and adjusted internet gross sports betting receipts were $158.5m, including $126.7m from internet gaming and $31.8m from internet sports betting. 

Monthly internet gaming adjusted gross receipts were up $10.9m (9.4 per cent) and internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts increased by $4.6m (16.9 per cent) compared with September results.

Compared with October 2021, internet gaming adjusted gross receipts jumped 28 per cent ($27.7m) and internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts increased 577.9 per cent ($27.1m) year-on-year.

In addition, three Detroit casinos reported paying the city of Detroit $7.8m in wagering taxes and municipal services fees in October, with internet gaming taxes and fees contributing $6.9m. Tribal operators reported making $3m in payments to governing bodies.

During the first 10 months of 2022, aggregate internet gaming adjusted gross receipts totalled $1.2bn.
